“Nations will march towards the apex of their greatness at the same pace as their education. Nations will soar if their education soars; they will regress if it regresses. Nations will fall and sink in darkness if education is corrupted or completely abandoned.” - Simon Bolivar

Our Approach

Education changes lives. It’s a fact. Data shows that if all students in low income countries left school with basic reading skills, it could pull 171 million people out of poverty

To relieve poverty and improve education for children in Uganda we provide school scholarships to kids from vulnerable and impoverished backgrounds who desperately deserve the chance to go to school. In addition, we support teachers, students and schools with books, classroom materials, educational resources, and solar lights in order to support increased educational outcomes.

As a purpose driven organization, we’re rigorously monitoring the progress of our students after each term. We aim to set students up for complete Education Independence. At The Kikulu Foundation, we believe in amplifying the potential of our students and providing the necessary opportunities to help them change their trajectory and achieve their dreams.

Our Solutions

Collaboration

We strive to work hand-in-hand with our partners to understand the unique needs of each student, school, or program we help support. We partner with local professionals and groups who are experts in Ugandan culture and who understand the unique needs of their community. This means stronger, smarter solutions with more impact.

Student Assessments

Each student, and/or community of students we support, have come from vulnerable and impoverished backgrounds. It has been determined that without the help of scholarship funding, they would more than likely not have the opportunity to attend school.

Progress Monitoring

As a purpose driven organization, we’re rigorously monitoring the progress of our students. We receive progress reports and updates after each term and travel in-country annually to visit our students, schools, and partners.

School Scholarships, Books, Materials & Classroom Resources

Our school scholarships support students in primary and secondary school as well as vocational programs and university. Our books, materials, and support for other classroom materials help to deliver effective classroom learning. A one-time donation of $360 supports a student scholarship for one year. A $30 recurring monthly donation will keep a student in school for years to come.

Community Water Wells That Bring Clean, Safe, Accessible Water

Since the expansion of our programs in 2013, the Kikulu Foundation has partnered with Water is Long Life to make a positive change in the lives of the Ugandan people. This has been achieved through drilling water wells that provide clean, accessible, safe water and implementing WASH programs in underresourced communities in rural Uganda.

Solar Lights

1.6 billion people around the world lack proper access to electricity and many children do not have access to light for nighttime reading and study. Since 2014, TKF has partnered with LuminAid to provide more than 1,300 solar-powered, waterproof, inflatable portable lights for students and teachers in the communities where we work making light more accessible and sustainable.

Our Progress

We’re passionate about ending extreme poverty and helping build a more just and equitable world. We are dedicated to transparency and sharing our impact along the way. Here’s the progress we’ve made since we started working in 2012.
